18/04: Heading home
The die is cast: Arriving RIC, 4/19 at 20:58, UA#278.
It's been a good run. Look forward to seeing your faces and swapping larger stories.

16/04: More Bangkok
Friday was New Year's in Thailand. It is celebrated by watering another, water guns or splashing. Also, they paint your face with what looks like rice flour. It is confined mainly to the young and tourists. I got sprayed and painted. Can't find out the origin, probably something with John the Baptist..
I'm kicked back in Bangkok, at a fork in the road, waiting for a sign. Thought about going to Italy. The guide book indicates it's so expensive. I can afford it but something in me drags a foot at being fleeced as a tourist.

08/04: Easter in Bangkok
Hanoi is where 4 million small gasoline engines are driven by people that whipped our ass in an immoral war and vie for the space that you occupy. Crossing the street is akin to zen archery: bring the target to the arrow. The timing is exquisite. Every possible nitch is occupied. Not one more erg can be extracted by human effort from anything. I love it.
The two deal breakers are bad air and dishonorable dealings. Breathing the exhaust fumes start you on a half-life. I am already running a fever. And in all transportation deals and some other deals of money, there is a often a blatant and clumsy scam. And you know how I feel about that,

02/04: Hanoi, Viet Nam
Not caring what some may think, I would give an inch of my member for a night with Jane Fonda. Hanoi Jane is older now, but so am I. It would be like tagging a humming bird. We could forgive each other's politics.
I spent a few days in landlocked Laos, entering at Pakse on the Mekong River, a laid back town featuring a market of food, raw and cooked, other sundries. Taking a day tour, I saw a 5th. century temple to Vishnu at the foot of a mountain believed to be the foot of Vishnu. Of interest to me was the architecture and construction techniques, showing the fundamentals used at Angkor Wat 5 centuries later.

You may have forgotten of the images of Buddha that abound, each position of his hands is a reminder. For example, the lotus position, cross legged with palms in lap facing up is the most fundamental posture, the heart of Buddhist: meditation. Seated thus, chi (life force) is best coursed to achieve enlightenment. Used as iconography, it is the reminder.
Palms facing the viewer means stop fear. As Carlos Castaneda said: overcome fear; see clearly; gain power; die of old age. Palms facing down means don't be taken in by false or incorrect notions or spirits.

21/03: phnom penh, cambodia
"Do you want to fuck a child?" was the first offer of my motorbike driver from the Phnom Penh airport to my hotel. A good deal to view the Killing Fields came later.
Pol Pot's choice of Cambodia may have have been his best to run his experiments on the glorious merit of the Common Man. At first blush, he sounds like a Democrat. You recall he brutalized 1-4M people, of all stripe, in the '70's. Mostly, they were the intelligentsia, eye glasses would qualify you, indicating you read.

06/03: Hua Hin, March 3, 2007
Sobered, I walked the Bridge over the River Kwae. You recall the bridge between Thailand and Burma was completed Christmas Day, 1943 by Japan to transport war material for the invasion of India. Almost 16,000 of 30,000 POW's from America, England, Australia, Thailand and Holland plus 100.000 impressed laborers died at the hands of the Japs constructing that bridge and miles of tracks. Some tracks hug the rock walled river bank,

Not every man can be an intellectual. Nor can every woman encompass the totality of her thang. But some can. Yesterday morning, continuing the Chinese New Year celebration on an outside stage beside my hotel, 4 young women did Brittany Spears dancing. Only a 19 year old suburb athlete could equal their pelvic nutations, gyrations and your basic thrust. I was falling in love.
19/02: Malacca, Feb 19, 2007
It's Chinese New Year in Malacca. Sat. was the beginning but I think it's loosely defined and can last a month. Traditionally, everyone tumbles home to their parents. Another insurance agent told me there will be 2B public transport trips in SE Asia for the holiday, his mom, her mom, etc.
Celebrating the event a lady friend Chu, 2 expats and I strolled the main street of Chinatown enjoying the lion dance performers, singers and vendors, a lot of folks on the flo'. Stayed up for the countdown at the local intercultural pub, Discovery.

14/02: Malacca, Feb 14, 2007
When random anecdotal information dovetails, it venerates my need for the mystical experience. For example, you know how much I enjoyed Menzies' 1421, read 4 times. The spirit nudged me to go to Malacca, north of Singapore. I knew the Straights of Malacca from sailing days as a place to be cautious about pirates, and maybe 10 years ago pirates were grapnelling aboard freighters and commandeering their goodies.
